MODIFICATION OF EXISTING WARM-UP FACILITY FOR REACTOR FEED PUMPS IN ARDS UNITS

Average Rating 0.00

ABSTRACT / SUMMARY

Current Condition:

Feed pump (hot & high pressure) takes suction from the feed surge drum and pumps the feed up to reactor section. There are total three high-pressure reactor feed pumps. As a pre-requisite to start these pumps, Pump casing is to be warmed up to 385 Deg. F (permissive to start) . To achieve the warmup condition of the Pump, it is provided with hot diesel line 2 inch from Fractionation Section having temp around 400 deg. F.

However, presently with this source we are not able to achieve required warmup temperature since the flow of diesel is not sufficient to raise up pump casing temperature resulting in pump seal leak during Startup.

It is worth to mention, operations are facing difficulty to displace the diesel with black oil prior to starting the pump leading to running pump cavitation during pump change-over causing pump trip. Reference- Figure 1 (schematic for existing facility)

Proposal:

To overcome this issue, the proposal is to provide warm-up line from pump discharge back to casing. Reference- Figure 2 (schematic for proposed facility)
